Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall along the western Florida Panhandle coastline within the next couple of hours as a powerful Category 2 hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center's 8 p.m. advisory.

As of 8 p.m. Eastern time, the storm's center was located near 30.1 degrees north latitude and 86.6 degrees west longitude, moving north at 18 mph. Forecasters expect Isaias to continue on a northward track through Saturday before turning northeast into the Tennessee Valley by Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 110 mph, with stronger gusts reported across portions of the Florida Panhandle. A WeatherFlow station in Gulf Breeze recently measured sustained winds of 83 mph with gusts reaching 97 mph, while Pensacola International Airport reported a wind gust of 71 mph.

The hurricane is expected to weaken after moving inland and could transition into a post-tropical system on Saturday. However, damaging winds, dangerous storm surge, and heavy rainfall remain major threats across the northern Gulf Coast.

A Hurricane Warning remains in effect from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, eastward to the Bay-Gulf County line in Florida. Tropical Storm Warnings extend from southeastern Louisiana across parts of Mississippi and along portions of the Florida Gulf Coast east of the hurricane warning area.

A Storm Surge Warning continues from the mouth of the Mississippi River eastward to the Suwannee River. Forecasters warn that life-threatening flooding from rising seawater remains possible in vulnerable coastal communities. A Storm Surge Watch is also in effect from the Suwannee River to Yankeetown.

Emergency officials continue urging residents in warning areas to complete preparations immediately and follow evacuation orders where they have been issued. Conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly near and east of where the center comes ashore.

The minimum central pressure of Hurricane Isaias was estimated at 967 millibars as of the latest advisory.
